Mindef has published that the 17-yr young Ben Davis's dad could not commit to a firm date for Ben to return fr UK when applying for deferment. It concludes that it showz there is no intention to return to serve NS if Ben was given a full (vs. current senior-) professional contract.
Is Mindef too quick to make that assumption or it is reasonable?
From my perspective, outstanding players in a team sport hv been natirally disadvantaged when it comes to NS deferment as he cannot on his own win honour n glory for his nation. Unlike Jospeh Schooling n other sportsmen who can win i individual title n medals at international n world stage.
Joseph got the "supports" AFTER he became the 1st Olympics Champion of Sgp! That win garnered much photo-opportunity for politicians n President though none of them directly had a hand to helping him to be the Olympics Champion.
Ben being a footballer, outstanding as he may be, really has no chance here. He cannot be at Messi or CR7 or Modric level if he has to return afyer 2-yr of his senior contract with Fulham.
He may well hv to give up Sgp citizenship for his passion n career as a professional footballer!
