Daily Lessons from Life 08 May 2016 - Kudos to Ms Yip, Aussie's Indulgence & Bukit Batok Again?

1. "Swimming: Another world record for para swimmer Yip Pin Xiu - 08 May 2016 The Straits Times

To ensure she was in the best possible form for the International Paralympic Council (IPC) Swimming European Open Championships, Yip Pin Xiu upped her training volume, tapered down for the meet, and stayed off her favourite desserts.

So it was no wonder that, after an "especially exhausting" meet in which she smashed two world records and two Asian marks, the para-swimmer was hungry.

Not only was she eager to finally dig into the jellies she had been eyeing in Funchal, Portugal, but the Singaporean is also hungrier for success at Sept 7-18's Rio Paralympics."

Kudos to Ms Yip for smashing two world records and two Asian marks in one meet! Tremendous achievement. Indeed, all the hard work had paid off. It is most gratifying for any athlete when his/her efforts paid off as they know many who had worked just as hard might not see the payback they had achieved!

All the best to her Rio Paralympics from Sept 7-18!

2. "Australian PM Turnbull calls for Jul 2 election - AFP 08 May 2016"

Well well well. Holding election and participating in election has probably just become the most popular sports in Australia. This one just 8 months after the last one while the last one was called I believed within the last 18 months! And the one before that was not too long ago too!

This is democracy? I think whatever the politicians do in the parliament in Australia probably has NO effect on Joe Bloke and Mary Jean. Otherwise, how would they had tolerated these politicians asking them to go to the poll again and again? Maybe like some great persons, or someone anyway, said: you get what you deserved if you tolerate mediocrity!!

3. "Analysis of PAP's Win and SDP's Loss in Bukit Batok - The Straits Times 08 May 2016"

Someone wrote about the 7 issues that stood out in the by-election, and I think the MOST important for the residents is: Who is in charge of upgrading?

Anyway, the 1st one is: character or the lack of character of the candidate - this one Dr Chee has a historical burden dating many years ago. Whatever it maybe. The fact that he is STLLL wanting to be an opposition politician, even after his chief nemesis, late Mr Lee has past on, shows that he has the character of being very determined, focused and swimming incessantly against all odds.

As for his 'ousting' of Mr Chiam from SDP, becoming a bankrupt for non-discretionary defaming the late Mr Lee and PM Lee, etc. in the past, he had paid his price. Did he regretted or repented doing those things, he has not said it publicly. The question is: are these still relevant based on his steadfast behaviours in contesting in the GE2011 and this by-election.

For me, the final analysis is really: why would he still wants to be an opposition politician in such a no-win, no-love-lost environment where most voters just want to have their bread and butter issues taken care of instead of the lofty ideas of 'diversity in government makes good or better government'?

Like some said: someone has to do it. And perhaps Dr Chee and his colleagues said: if not us, who?

All the best in this journey. Unlike the economy suffers a prolonged and irreversible decline, the PAP with the trillions in our national reserves built up over the successful past will be the ruling party for years to come.
