Well, 1/3 of 2016 will end in a few hours time. How am I doing against my 2016 Resolutions? Overall not too bad! Healthy weight management had a breakthrough. Now consistent at 75kg level! Regular longer jogs are not as often and has severely affected my stamina. NOT GOOD at all! Work is ok. Overall, should be thankful for whatever progress or lack of todate!
1. "PM Lee questioned Dr Chee's characters and credential to be a MP - CNA 30 April 2016"
Are we back to focusing on the candidate's character and history again? If so, this is a regression as far as I am concerned.
Dr Chee had, in my view, being in politics for the WRONG REASONS in the past when the late ex-MM/SM/PM Lee Kuan Yew was around. Dr Chee was having a personal battle with late Mr Lee. I have issue with his sincerity and intention of staying in politics then. In addition, since he is shunt by Singaporeans, he has to rely on the liberal West, and the USA, for funding and work, especially those where he travelled overseas to give speeches or present whatever papers.
In GE2015, Dr Chee was a changed man. Is this play acting? I hope not as if it is, the tail of a fox will eventually be revealed or revealed itself when the fox got carried away with its own 'ability to fool everybody'!
So, when Dr Chee is attacked personally by ANY of the big wigs of PAP in support of its candidate, 'Ah Mu' Murali, it reminds me of the famous, or infamous, disservice the late ex-MM/SM/PM Lee did for the Minister Georeg Yeo's Aljunied GRC: 'That you will repent if you choose the WP team into parliament!'.
Let's see if it really play out that way of not!
2. "Right jobs, right skills key to transforming Singapore’s economy: PM Lee - CNA 30 Apr 2016
SINGAPORE: To transform its economy, Singapore needs to ensure that it offers the right jobs, its workers have the right skills, and there is a good match between the two, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in his May Day message.
“Tripartism is key to achieving this goal. Employers must envision the future of their business and work with Government and the Labour Movement to redesign jobs and develop their talent with this vision in mind. Workers must actively partner with employers to upgrade their skills, and stay relevant for the future,” he said."
It is good that the understanding is clear: That JOBS creation starts with the Employers envisioning the FUTURE of their BUEINSSES! What are the demand of the market for the type of products, services and solutions in the next 1 year is already hard to anticipate, let along the need to see at least 3 years ahead! So, there are only the 'best' educated guess of the future of their businesses!
Given that situation, it is therefore unrealistic for the workers of the future to know what specific technical knowledge and skills are required to be successful and how much those jobs will pay. Instead, suffice to say that certain LIFE SKILLS are pre-requisite for ALL! e.g. effective communication including but not limited to: set and getting alignment on SMART goals, creative problems solving skills, leverage the synergistic power of a high performing team and its members, etc.
As for learning the specific technical knowledge and skills to execute successfully and effectively, the Employers will need to jump in and help out. Assuming that the LIFE SKILLS will help a person to LEARN the specific technical knowledge and skills BETTER, FASTER and more effectively, the learners will benefit from getting hired.
Can the government pick the winners? Probably. Yet, whenever government is involved too deeply with operational issues, things fall apart! Maybe it is a case of: 'too many cooks spoiled the soup'!
May as high a number of PMETs made redundant can stay resilience, put down self-pride and ego and get to work, to learn and do whatever it takes to get back to gainful employment again!
