Daily Lessons from Life 16 March 2016 - 4 Singaporeans arrested under ISA for involvement in armed violence abroad

"4 Singaporeans arrested under ISA for involvement in armed violence abroad - The Straits Times 16 Mar 2016

SINGAPORE - Four Singapore citizens have been dealt with under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for taking part in violence or intending to undertake violence in armed conflicts overseas, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Wednesday (March 16).

Two of the men, Mohammad Razif Yahya, 27, and Amiruddin Sawir, 53, were detained under the ISA in August 2015 for voluntarily fighting in the sectarian conflict in Yemen.

A third, Mohamed Mohideen Mohamed Jais, 25, had also performed armed sentry duties in the wartorn Middle East country and was issued with a Restriction Order, which limits his activities, this month.

In the first case of its kind, Wang Yuandongyi, 23, was also placed on a Restriction Order this month. The naturalised Singaporean had left Singapore and was on his way to Turkey and Syria to join a Kurdish militia group that was fighting against terrorist group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

On the request of the Singapore Government, he was located by the authorities of a third country he had travelled to - which the ministry did not name - and turned back to Singapore."

Every time I read about this type of going on by Singapore's residents and citizens, I am worried.

1. worried that someone from materialistic Singapore is prepared to kill and be killed in a conflict thousands of miles away from this safe shore. That the power of religion and religious belief knows no boundaries, borders and countries!;

2. worried that these very same people when they return home to Singapore after having killed their 'enemies' in a faraway land, may carry the same killer mentality to peaceful Singapore to settle any perceived injustice or unfairness being heaped on him or his religious group, even if legally! When religious fervour overpower rationality, which it will always do so, they can carry out the killing HERE to settle the 'problem' in the violent way they had practiced! THIS IS WORRYING!;

3. that our laws enforcement and intelligence services are on the ball and nabbing these individuals with some certainties are comforting thoughts for ordinary citizens like us. 1, 2, 3 or 4 out of tens of thousands of Muslims in Singapore is a minuscule ratio to be worried about. YET, even 1 person with a confused or twisted sense of justice with a fire arms can take away a great number of innocent lives with ease and in double quick time. Thankfully, guns control in Singapore is EXTREMELY strict and the penalty for just carrying fire arms without discharging it is DEATH, help ensure that IF there are deviant people among us, the damages they can inflict on the public are kept to the minimal!

May these gentlemen find their peace and reconcile their religious beliefs and the reality.
