1. "Dozens flee homes as wildfires rage in Greece, PM urges calm- CNA 17 July 2015
Forest fires fanned by strong winds and high temperatures broke out around Athens and in other parts of southern Greece on Friday, sending residents fleeing as clouds of smoke billowed over their homes."
For the superstitious, the Greek Gods were angry at the Bail-out deal as well and want to 'punish' the Greeks?
Or just that when you are down and out, nature wants to throw a punch at you too?
May there be no human deaths. Properties are not important relatively.
2. "Dr Yaacob Ibrahim joins 3,500 worshippers for Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayers - CNA 17 July 2015
SINGAPORE: Muslim youths in Singapore have been urged to receive Islamic education from trusted and accredited sources.
This was the message from both the Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, and the Mufti of Singapore, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, as Muslims in the country celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Friday (Jul 17).
Mufti Dr Fatris Bakaram delivered the Hari Raya Aidilfitri khutbah (sermon), emphasising the importance of upholding the true teachings of Islam, in line with the conduct and manners of the Prophet Muhammad."
Best wishes to the Muslim brothers and sisters of Singapore on this important festival: Hari Raya Puasa/Aidilfitri.
Lessons for me are:
1. we have it good for many years through diligent, conscious and deliberation attempts and efforts to ensure that multi-religious harmony is preserved and set it as the paramount task. It was NO ACCIDENT. To keep the harmonious situation going, NO ONE can be complacent!;
2. all religions must be respectful of each other. My principles are simple: go praise your own religion for all its greatness. At the same time, recognise that there is NO NEED to compare and imply that one is BETTER THAN the other. Anytime, someone want to TEST this 'out-of-bound boundary', stop it in an open and transparent manner asap. Period. NO 'if or but' about this;
3. wonderful to know that the Muslim religious authorities are very intentional about ensuring the young and younger followers are receiving teaching from trusted and accredited sources. It is necessary as there are simply too many 'non-creditable and devious sources' in the wide internet space that pretend to be 'authentic Islam teaching'. Of course, the basic rule of thump to apply by ANY potential followers of Islam is: when the teaching teaches one that killing a non-believer is the right thing, red flag should automatically goes up. It CANNOT be right that any religious teacher would advocate 'killing another human being' as the right thing to do.
Peace on earth. Religious harmony forever!
