1. "Hong Kong protesters burn effigies of Lee Hsien Loong, Lee Kuan Yew - CNA 05 July 2015
HONG KONG: Protesters in Hong Kong on Sunday (Jul 5) burnt effigies of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew at a demonstration held to demand the release of teen blogger Amos Yee.
About 50 people from various civic and political groups gathered with banners and placards near the Singapore Consulate in Admiralty district, one day ahead of Yee’s expected sentencing, reported the South China Morning Post."
This is GETTING UGLY!! This action by the Hong Kong civil and political groups is SIMPLE unnecessary and unhelpful. I guessed when they could not INFLUENCE or AFFECT the decision by its MOTHERLAND Central Government on their desired 'Western Style democratic election' that Singapore is at least enjoying! Frustration spilling over?
2. "Nurturing togetherness, generosity, thankfulness in line with jubilee spirit: PM Lee - CNA 05 July 2015
SINGAPORE: Nurturing togetherness, generosity and thankfulness is in line with the spirit of the Golden Jubilee, and this will see Singapore into the future, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
He was speaking on Sunday evening (Jul 5) to members of the Christian community at the Jubilee Day of Prayer, held at the National Stadium in Singapore Sports Hub.
Mr Lee said the jubilee year holds significance for Christians, as it is the 50th year that comes after seven sabbatical cycles.
"The jubilee is a year of great celebration. People spend time with their families, they enjoy their harvest, and we've had a bountiful harvest. And they have freely shared what they had with each other and especially with the poor. So I think it is very fitting that for SG50, we celebrate a jubilee in Singapore. Celebrate with family and friends, and give thanks for what we have achieved these 50 years,” said PM Lee.
Some 50,000 people, led by the National Council of Churches in Singapore (NCCS) and the Evangelical Fellowship of Singapore (EFOS) came together to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday.
Mr Lee paid tribute to the Protestant community for their role in building Singapore over the past 50 years, especially in education and social services. He also thanked church leaders for respecting Singapore's multiracial, multi-religious society.
Mr Lee said that while Singapore is a secular country, many of its people are deeply religious and take their faiths seriously.
He said the Government considers this a "good thing", as it has given the country the right values and a moral compass."
I am not into numerology so 50th anniversary or 50,000 people or a Jubilee Year that comes after 7th Sabbatical Cycles have not much meaning on me.
Lessons for me are:
1. in a multi-racial and multi-religious society, go preach and promote the many good virtues of your religion. At the same time, NEVER talk bad after OTHER religions. Period!!;
2. all religions, if they are any 'good', do not and cannot preach 'killing someone who does not believe in your religion' as 'right' and 'will be honoured by your religion'! It CANNOT BE!! So, ANY religion that preach that, HAVE TO BE BANISHED from the nation. Of course I mean the application is to be on current situation. The religious wars that were fought and where millions died in the past CAN NO LONGER be acceptable. Those where wars waged by human being using religions as excuses! In modern days and modern Singapore, we ONLY WANT religions that preach peaceful and mutually respectful co-existence!;
3. truly religious person(s) has/have a dilemma. To go ABSOLUTISM or 'a bit of appreciation of current environment'. I talked about this in the past on WHY I am NOT religious as I COULD NOT accept 'half-past-six' reading of religious teaching. So, if I become religious, it is either ALL or NOTHING! Alas, the challenge is I accept SOME teaching of some religions while also have difficulties accepting SOME teaching of some of the SAME RELIGIONS. To the purists, I am INSINCERE. Not pious enough! So, I rather NOT be a religious person. At least not professing to be one as I KNOW in any religion, the relationship between the 'God or Creator or whatever you may want to call it/him/her/them' and the believer is a PRIVATE one.
Happy Jubilee Year to the Christians.
