1. "Tourists scramble to leave Tunisia after seaside massacre - AFP 27 June 2015
Tour operators scramble to fly thousands of fearful holidaymakers home from Tunisia after a militant gunman killed 38 people, most of them British tourists, at a beach resort."
Condolences to the dead and their families and friends. Shames to the cowardice killers who can only massacre innocent unarmed tourists! This in the month of Ramadan!!
2. "'Absolutism' often the seed of extremist ideology: Terror experts - CNA 27 June 2015
Second Home Affairs Minister Masagos Zulkifli has expressed concern over people who have a very rigid view of Islam, who he calls "absolutists", and terror experts say absolutism is often the seed of extremist ideology."
I commented on WHY I cannot be a 'true' religious man as I feel that IF I am NOT absolutely FANATICAL about my religion, then I am not a very good follower of THAT religion. It is like, all the way or none at all. As I agree with some teaching from some religions and disagree with some other teaching from the same some religion, it is best that I remain 'religion-neutral'! In this way, I CAN BE a normal human being living in a secular world without any 'religious guilt!'
Of course this view that one must be ABSOLUTE in religion is incomparable with the NORMAL functioning world we live it. HENCE, anyone who holds an ABSOLUTE religious view IS a de-stabilizing force in the NORMAL WORLD and SHOULD be 'neutralized'. In this situation, it is about the greater good over the minority's right. A bit drastic but totally necessary IF we want to keep 'terrorists who hide behind a religion to kill innocent people randomly and without mercy'!
3. "About 60 demonstrate outside S'pore Trade Office in Taipei; call for Amos Yee's release - The Straits Times 26 June 2015
SINGAPORE/TAIPEI - About 60 people demonstrated outside the Singapore Trade Office in Taipei on Friday morning, calling for teenage blogger Amos Yee to be freed. The protesters from more than 10 civil society groups under the banner of the Taiwan Association for Human Rights (TAHR) held placards and chanted "Free Amos Yee" for about half an hour."
It this a JOKE or a FARCE? A MONSTER that grew out of control in the last 1-2 weeks?
Can such a case be 'internationalised' to threaten Singapore government from dropping the ensuing prosecution against this young rebel with some medical and psychological challenges?
I think NOT! This is NOT the Singapore government's way. Neither is this SOMETHING I would go along! It is a DOMESTIC issue, this Amos case. You can express your disagreement in any other means but demonstrating physically in a 'friend country' in front of Singapore government office is JUST a step to far! It has crossed the boundary of decency and respect.
Of course, such an action is PAR for many liberal elements in the Western or so-called advance nations. I respect these nations and their nationals for holding such view. However, it is UNWELCOME by Singaporeans like myself.
Yes, in my opinion the government has gone OVERBOARD with charging the 16- or now 17-year old Amos. YET, I believe this GOVERNMENT will find a way to exit this 'painted myself into a corner' situation. Just be a bit more patience. And a bit more respectful here. Thank you very much!!
