Condolences to those killed in the French Factory attack attributed to 'terrorists'. RIP!
"NUS law prof who attacked cabby sentenced to 4 months’ jail, ordered to pay compensation - can 26 June 2015
SINGAPORE: An assistant law professor from the National University of Singapore (NUS) has been sentenced to four months' jail on Friday (Jun 26) for punching and causing hurt to a taxi driver.
Sundram Peter Soosay, 43, was also ordered to pay the taxi driver, 69-year-old Sun Chuan Hua, a sum of S$1,500 as compensation. The accused, a Singapore Permanent Resident, had previously been found guilty of his offence on May 29 after claiming trial for his charge.
However, Soosay - who had denied the allegations against him during trial - indicated his intention to appeal via his lawyer."
I HOPE for the best for this Associated Professor of Laws at NUS. That he is RIGHT! That he should NEVER HAD BEEN charged! That the taxi driver, a 69-year old, SHOULD BE charged instead!
Lessons for me:
1. being 'educated' is not really about educational qualification in the END! Being 'educated' also means learning to acknowledge mistakes made, own up and make it better in the future!;
2. then again when you are an Associate Professor, when your words are held as the gospel truth (okay, I exaggerated!), when you are almost alright RIGHT, it is hard to see that HOW COULD YOU BE WRONG! This is the curse of the 'educated'. Something some of the many fallen famous people WHO climbed from the pit after falling so hard from their MISTAKES after they ACKNOWLEDGED their mistakes knew very well! Maybe this Associate Professor can take a leaf from them?;
3. that said, IF this man NOW acknowledged his folly and just accept the sentence, maybe, just maybe, he can find his own salvation and being to make redemption and peace. The first thing he might want to do is to quit drinking, or quit drinking till he became intoxicated and do stupid and VIOLENT things to people! Alas, his drinking problem, if there is one, would have been taken care off when he serve his jail sentence since they have none of those alcoholic beverages in the prison's canteen!
'Educated'? I go for common decency and non-violence ANYTIME!!
