"Dubai pardons Norwegian rape victim of extramarital sex - AFP Jul 22, 2013 DUBAI - A Norwegian woman, Marte Dalelv, 24, in a rape case in Dubai said she was pardoned Monday of an extramarital sex charge in the Muslim emirate and allowed to fly home, ending a four-month ordeal. In Oslo, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide also said Dalelv was being allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai is a member. Dalelv had risked 16 months in jail after she reported having been raped by her boss in the UAE. Her boss, who was sentenced to 13 months in prison for alcohol consumption and sex outside marriage, was also pardoned, her lawyer Mahmoud Azab told AFP. She reported the rape to police back in March and was immediately detained, being released four days later with the assistance of Norwegian diplomats. The young woman has since been staying at the Norwegian Seamen's Centre in Dubai. Eide has said it was "very strange that a person who reports rape is sentenced for acts which in our part of the world is not even a crime." Her boss, a Sudanese identified as Hawari in his 30s, "was also handed back his passport" and freed, Azab said." Talking about CULTURAL Difference!! I don't even want to attempt to UNDERSTAND the LOGIC or illogic of what had happened in that part of the world. Lessons for me are: 1. what seems SO WRONG in one part of the globe can be deemed to be 'OK' in another part of the globe! Scary but seems to be the case here!!; 2. should one dwell deeper into the thinking and mindset behind such a law or an interpretation of the laws: that any woman who consumed alcohol and GOT raped is at fault regardless of the rapist's action! Can one extend it to include: how the man folks in this part of the global village THINK of their woman folks? Nothing but just a sex object? That to be sexually attacked or 'demanded' by their man folks is just the NATURAL way? That wives cannot deny the request or demand for sexual intercourse by their men? That there is no 'marital rape'?; 3. the treatment given to the rapist was: given back his passport and FREED too! He is NOT responsible for the 'rape'? Or the 'rape' never did happen? Or it was the lady's fault to have caused him to consume alcohol and forced her to have sex? 'Forcing someone to have sex is NOT rape'? Or maybe that is HOW the folks in this part of the global village treats their men. Whenever you have a hard-on, you just go and get 'it' from any women in sight! It is OK. It is NOT rape. Dare I comment further? No. I will stop here. It is a land where any ladies MUST think hard to visit. Maybe in a Burka and pray to Alxxh that one of his disciplines don't get horny to try to tear the Burka apart!
