Daily Lessons from Life 02 January 2017 - More Deadly than I thought this New Year Eve/Day

"Islamic State claims responsibility for Istanbul attack: Statement - 39 killed. Nationals of Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Israel, India, a Turkish-Belgian dual citizen and a Franco-Tunisian woman were among those killed, officials said. Saudi newspaper al-Riyadh said five of the dead were from Saudi Arabia."

"Indonesian tourist boat captain held after deadly fire - JAKARTA: Indonesian police said Monday they had detained the captain of a tourist boat that burst into flames en route to a holiday island, leaving 23 people dead, amid reports he was the first to jump ship.

The Zahro Express became engulfed by fire on Sunday shortly after it set off from Jakarta carrying about 250 local holidaymakers to celebrate the New Year on the nearby resort island of Tidung."

"Horrific Thai road smash kills 25 - BANGKOK: A minivan and a pickup truck both packed with passengers collided in eastern Thailand on Monday (Jan 2), killing 25 people in a harrowing reminder of the country's notoriously dangerous roads.

Police said the minivan driver lost control and ploughed through a central reservation into oncoming traffic in the eastern province of Chonburi. Both vehicles burst into flames."

I wrote about the Istanbul killing by a TERRORIST, he is NOT a IS or a religious terrorist, He IS JUST a TERRORIST! Period! I am NOT going to glorify him as he is a TERRORIST! And feeling relief that nothing of such kind happened in Singapore. Yet, as I read today's newspapers, many MORE died due to MAN MADE MISTAKES or just ACCIDENTS!

Am I trying to trivialised the terrorists' killing. NO! I am pointing out, as Mariah Carey tweeted: 'Shit happens!' YET, for those MAN MADE disasters that killed, those responsible have to raise their hands and asked themselves: have they taken enough care and responsibility to keep the 'accidents' from happening? For those killed by a cruel and crazy terrorist, they were just plain unlucky to be at the WRONG PLACE at the WRONG TIME. For those that died in these 2 sea and road accidents, their lives were in the hands of 'responsible boat captain and drivers' and nothing of this sort should happen. Yet they died in these ACCIDENTS! Is it fate? Sure one can attribute it to that since they are dead! YET, could these accidents NOT be prevented?

A sad start to the new year 2017 for those who lost a loved one. Condolences to them. And RIP to the dead.

p/s: somebody shared, supposedly Dr Lee Wai Ling's post on President Xi's anti-corruption moves are to rid himself of his rivals besides truly cleaning up the corrupt culture of China. While some said NO ONE of notes pay heed to Dr Lee's writing, it is unfortunate that someone in China may pick it up just because she is the sister of PM Lee. Hopefully not as what she had written is not helpful to defuse the 'tension', acknowledged or otherwise, between China and our Little Red Dot right now. Do most of the ordinary Chinese citizens feel that President Xi is doing the right thing? If so, it is not our business to tell him that his moves have ulterior motives. Is it?
