Daily Lessons from Life 05 March 2020 - S$1B for Bicycle Track?

"Expansion of cycling path network to be sped up, will cost more than S$1 billion: Lam Pin Min

SINGAPORE: The development of cycling paths in Singapore is being accelerated, with such paths expected to span about 800km by 2023.

This means the project would be two years ahead of the original schedule, which would have seen 750km of cycling paths in Singapore by 2025, noted Senior Minister of State for Transport Lam Pin Min on Thursday (Mar 5) during the Ministry of Transport’s Committee of Supply debate."

Hey i cycled. i like it. Still, does it really need to use S$1B over 2 yrs? What is the cost per km? How does it compare against a highway or a flyover?

I find it pretty scary when the cabinet members r totallt unfazed by such big number! Maybe the so-called big number is just small no. relative to the total package n the accumulated wealth of the cabinet officials??

How do we guaranteed that bicycles WILL REPLACE cars like in the Netherlands n Demarks, etc. advanced bicycle cities n countries given our humid weather?

Or it is totally justified to build in Sgp as people will ride in this hot n humid weather as it is enjoyable, n a healthy lifestyle !!??
