Daily Lessons from Life 24 February 2019 - Depression n Youth n Suicides

"Breaking the silence on suicide: A mother opens up about the loss of her teenage son

SINGAPORE - Grief leaves its marks on the body.

For weeks after her teenage son died by suicide last year, Ms Elaine Lek, 54, wore thick jackets as she felt cold even in boiling weather.

She stopped driving for four months because of panic attacks that left her with heart palpitations and chest pains. She broke out in rashes and food tasted like dust."

A heart wrenching story to read n my utmost respect to Ms Lek for her courage n good intention to share it so that other parents, other kids, other friends can help someone who is having suicidal thought presently.

It is a complex situation normally n it does not just happened. If someone is aware n know what to look out for telltales sign of someone suffering fr mental challenges like depression, they can talk to the person. Especially if they hv suicidal thought as they know it is ok to share with someone who care n r non-judgmental.

Professional help can b sought earlier is always better than later!

Blessed those afflicted with this mental condition. Blessed those who r aware n tried to help a person with suicidal thought, regardless of successful or not.

Blessed those who didn't make it n perished through suicide, in Sgp it is going to b no longer a criminal act! U r not a criminal. Yet, had u known then, would u hv been more willing to share with someone that u were suicidal then? Would it had prompted u to seek help instead?
