"Ng Eng Hen to deliver ministerial statement on NS training deaths, SAF safety
SINGAPORE: Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen will make a ministerial statement on National Service (NS) training deaths and safety enhancements for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) when Parliament sits on Monday (Feb 11).
This comes after Singapore actor Aloysius Pang died from serious injuries sustained during an SAF training exercise in New Zealand last month.
The actor's death and the safety of SAF training in general will be in the spotlight when Parliament sits, with at least 20 related questions tabled.
MP Alex Yam has asked how the defence ministry (MINDEF) intends to reassure Singaporeans that "safety in the SAF is paramount", given that Pang's was the fourth SAF training fatality in 18 months.
Other issues on the Parliament agenda include GCE examination papers, after 32 O-Level Additional Mathematics exam scripts from Singapore went missing in the United Kingdom.
Parliament will also discuss the service quality of national postal service Singapore Post, regulations concerning compensation for significant flight delays and licensing requirements for pet boarding businesses."
Looks like a lot of Qs been asked of the Minister of Defence arising fr the death of a young promising n popular local artist, the 4th totally unacceptable loss of life while on Reservist training or Active services!
Will the Minister give the same old tired replies or will there b more convincing n acceptable answers to these Qs?
The public r eager to hear the truth n concrete believable actions to ensure such losses should never recur under the same circumstances! The public, n more importantly parents n future parents of young Sgp kids serving the armed forces, know that their kids' safety in peace time services r very much in good hands due to sound practices, very focused attitudes n values, n steadfast adherence to these well established protocols, etc.
Of course, nobody should b blamed if the servicemen didn't observe the fail-safe procedure himself.
As for SingPost deteriorating services, hopefully the rewards system can b looked into. Saving costs at all cost simply will lead to short cut, temporary boost in profit n a definite decline in morale n proven unsustainable in the long run. When that happened, the efforts to stop n damages control n recovery will take 10x the efforts! So, "Do the right things right the 1st time!" is the best!!
