2. PM Lee is suing Leong Tse Hian, a supposedly prominent blogger n x-President of Finacial Advisers i.e. mainly insurance, for defamationas on the basis that he had shared the article that shut The States Times Review news website down.
This is powerful stuff to deter anyone who want to just anyhow criticize the government n the PM. It is obviously meant to encourage responsible sharing od online news.
I can understand why he is charged for promoting DoF (deliberate online falsehood) as the new laws put the onus on anyone who want to share news they read without validating that it is fact based n not fake news!
As for charging him for defamation n that PM Lee had suffered damages to reputations, etc. is a bit onerous as the world, or Sgp people, had already read the same article n know that it is not substantiated n the The States Times Review had been closed down as it acknowledged that it has erred big time. i.e. everyone know the allegations against PM Lee are just unsubstantiated n fake!
In this case, what reputational damages could PM Lee had suffered? Can a person be hurt twice or nth time for the same article?
Anyway, how would the people of Sgp look at this persecution of a relatively laws abiding activist? Would they take the pragmatic view of "u cant promote invalidated news" or "Leong's posting without any additional comments at his own FB page is not sucha big crimes right?"?
One thing for sure. B prepared to b sued if u want to post unsubstantiated facts abt the government n the PM!!
