Daily Lessons from Life 29-30 July 2018 - Elderly n elderly!!

1. Dr Tan Chin Bick, 76, being asked to lead a potential 7-party oppisition coalition!

Dr Tan has the credential though he is no Dr M as he had not been a PM before.

As he wrote, or supposedly expressed, that it will b a missed chance if he did not do anything to help Sgp political future though he is not sure in what capacity.

He stresses that Sgp interest must cone b4 any party n any individual interest. N that the good people in these opposition parties will need to n able step aside or move backstage for more suitable candidates where appropriate.

If the coalition did formed, it will b best to avoid drawing any parallel to PH change of government in Msia as Sgp PAP government may has its faults to fix, it is not anywhere near the endemic corruption of Najib's proportion.

Focus on getting 1/4 of opposition party MPs in the parliament in GE2020/21 will b a great start!!

All the successes in this effort.

2. Elderly suicides at record high in Sgp

76 can b consider an elderly. Dr Tan is looking at the chance to chart new course for Sgp political landscape while some of his fellow contemporaries r choosing to end their lives.

A stark Heaven n Earth  (or "Hell") difference!! What gives for those who committed suicides?

"Number of elderly suicides at all-time high: SOS

Made up 36 per cent of 361 suicides reported in 2017, compared to 29 per cent of 429 suicides the year before.
“It is very worrying that many elderly are turning to suicide as the only choice to end their pain and struggles, when they should be enjoying the lustre of their golden years,” SOS executive director Christine Wong said.
According to National University of Singapore sociologist Tan Ern Ser, the typical profile of a senior who is more likely to commit suicide is probably someone aged 75 or above, living alone or with a spouse, and has only up to primary school education.
These seniors might feel that life is "empty and meaningless", Dr Tan told Channel NewsAsia, stating the absence of social support or a chronic or terminal illness as some common reasons for suicide.
Other common struggles include social disconnection, the fear of burdening family and friends, and daily difficulties due to physical challenges and deteriorating mental health, SOS said, citing callers to their 24-hour hotline.
"These concerns predisposes socially isolated elderly to depression and suicidal thoughts when struggles go undetected and unaddressed," it added."
Is this a good choice for the elderly to make conscientiously if they were really terminal n tired of living?
Can we promote euthanasia as an alternative legally in the not too distant future? Since Sgp is mostly abt costs n benefits analysis, can an elderly choose to terminate himself?
Of course safeguards hv to be put in place to prevent abuses of elderly.
Blessed the elderly who r still enthusiastic abt life n those that feel life still to b lived to the fullest, good luck!!
