LONDON: The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting formally opened at Buckingham Palace on Thursday (Apr 19).
Leaders of 53 nations, including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, are in London for the week-long summit, which began on Monday and runs till Friday.

They are expected to discuss global and regional issues of concern and review developments in the Commonwealth.
The opening, which marks the official start of CHOGM, featured a celebratory welcome for leaders which included a guard of honour as well as cultural and musical performances."
I questioned the need for the Commonwealth. With so many global organizations today why bothered to keep one where UK was once the colonial master? All the other members are all independent sovereign states now. Each has its own development direction n pace with no more key influences fr UK. Conceded that some, a small minority maybe still needs n do get some assistance n supports fr UK n other member states. These could hv been done under IMF of World Bank or UN or WTO, etc. etc. global n regional organisations of total equals. No past master nor past colonies!!
Why hv another intermediate organisation? Cut this m save money!! Seriously!!
