Daily Lessons from Life 02 January 2018 - PMD Fine raised!

"Stiffer fines from Jan 15 for PMD users caught riding on roads

SINGAPORE: Personal Mobility Device (PMD) users caught riding on roads will face tougher enforcement action from Jan 15, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Tuesday (Jan 2) in a press release.
"It is an offence under the Road Traffic Act to ride PMDs on roads, including expressways. PMD users who do so, pose a significant danger to themselves and other road users. To deter errant users, the penalties will be tiered to impose tougher penalties for more egregious cases," LTA said.
Under the new penalty regime, the current fine of S$100 will be increased to S$300 and S$500 for first-time offenders who ride on local and major roads respectively, the release said.
First-time offenders who ride on expressways will be charged in court. As per current practice, PMDs will be impounded in the course of investigations, LTA added."
Honestly it totally WRONG to just raise the fine as it involves potentially lethal injuries to the users of the PMD n ordinary roads n shared footpath!!
We r just so used to being a "Fine Fine Fine country" that the LTA just go for raising the amt of fine for offender!!
The other missing link is the penalties for those whose business is to modify the PMDs to be so powerful that they can ride on the roads, small or expressway never mind, n compete with licensed vehicles?
Trace back to the modifiers n cancel their business permits plus a hefty fine should be imposed too.
The modifiers r the source that make PMDs so powerful n "imolicitly" encouraged or embolden them to go on the roads n speed!!
While it may seem a bit barbaric, caning would be much better deterrent that fines n even jail. Jail is not a place to keep these offenders from being contaminated by the hard core prisoners. PMDs offenders just need to be cane to remind them of their foolishness to rush their lives n others n it is not worth it!!
Peace to the PMDs users n other road users.
