1st of all, RIP to the 10 dead American sailors while serving their nation. And condolences to the families and friends of the dead. No time for the 'what happened and why did it happen'. Definitely not the right time to debate should they be in this water. Just mourn and grief for now.
1. "EP2017 Nomination day on 13 September 2017 and Voting day on 23 September 2017"
The stage is all set. I hope for a NO CONTEST EP2017 as I really want to have a Quadrupled 1st EP who is a Woman (minority), Muslim (minority), Malay (minority) and HDB-based (majority) in Mdm President Halimah!
The other 2 EP candidates may want to consider withdrawing or not submit their application.
For a few reasons:
1. just in case there is a freak result, one of these 2 EP candidates may actually find himself in a job that he is not really qualified to do. Much like Donald Trump's surprise election and look at how 'decent' Americans are feeling embarrassed by President Trump's antics thus far?
Why would such a freak result happen, if ever? Well, there is this feeling in the ground that Mdm President was what the PAP government want since someone, jokingly supposedly, slipped his tongue in Parliament and mentioned her as Mdm President instead of Mdm Speaker!
As such, these 'self-righteous' voters may want to vote anyone other than Mdm Halimah. Which is a crazy idea as she is the MOST qualified among the 3 known 'potential qualified EP candidates' for this reserved Malay-only EP!!
2. the time and efforts and money spend or going to be spent on the EP campaigning, if there is a contest, is a waste as it is unlikely that the 70% who voted for the PAP government in the last GE2015 will vote for anyone other than Mdm Halimah. I will be concerned for the deposit of the other 2 candidates, if they qualified to contest.
Of course, I think both are wealthy enough to not worry about losing their deposits. Still, their pride and self-esteem may be hit badly!
3. the EP should really be an AP (appointed President) as the Cabinet can overrule the EP's Veto if need be. Even the Chief Justice who chaired the EP Amendment Committee and his members came up with this idea though it was not considered as it is 'out of scope'!
So, welcome Mdm President Halimah. Soon.
