Daily Lessons from Life 24 August 2017 - Fire Hazards ...

"36 buildings may have combustible cladding that don't meet safety standards; police investigating

SINGAPORE: A total of 36 buildings here may have used external cladding that do not meet fire safety requirements here, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Thursday (Aug 24).
This was discovered after investigations into a fire that broke out at an industrial building at 30 Toh Guan Road in May. A 54-year-old woman died in that fire.

SCDF found that the composite panels used as cladding on the building's external walls were combustible and not certified as Class 0 as required under the Fire Code.

Apart from the Toh Guan Road industrial building, 14 other buildings were found to have used cladding that are not certified as Class 0. They include Our Tampines Hub, Clementi Fire Station, blocks at Singapore Polytechnic and luxury condominiums The Peak @ Cairnhill I and II.
Three of these buildings - Clementi Fire Station and two McDonald's outlets - have since removed the affected cladding, said the SCDF in a news release."

I was in London when Grenwell Towers in West London caught fire and killed quite a few people while rendering the whole tower charred and tattered, an unsightly view if you are in London!

Wheat followed revealed that such warning about unsafe materials and how to set up safety regulation as well as its enforcement supposed had been put on ice, or forgotten and buried in dusts, as NO ONE in authority really have time to look at them or have no incentive to look at them!

Had those measures been debated, put in place and enforced, those lives might not have perished!

It is almost 3 months since, and about 1 month plus since I got home, from that horrify incident. I am SO SO GLAD that the authorities in Sgp had picked this up and follow-through!

36 buildings had been identified as having these unsafe cladding, it will be a terrible crime IF the building owners DO NOT immediately put this as their TOP PRIORITY and have them replaced with fire-safe ones and some fires broke out!

To do nothing when one has the knowledge that can save lives means whoever he/she maybe, in a deadly fire involving those buildings, she/he will be the ACCOMPLICES to a murder crime! It is as serious and as simple as that. No 'if' or 'but' about this.

Kudos to SCDF and other authorities. Please ensure that the FOLLOW-THROUGH is thorough and NOT like our old colonial masters' administration - a decade passed and just waiting for a deadline fire to stir them into actions! Stupidity and criminal negligence!! NO WAY!! We can do better Singapore!! We can!!
