Was going to write 'EP again!' as the 1st item but realised that there is another deja vu moment as the CHC Leaders were back in court to appeal against their previous sentences! May justice be upheld and they get what they deserve, if it means doubling their sentences, God willing!
OK, not back to the 'EP again!' topic!!
"On Tan Cheng Bock, mixed-race candidates: Singaporeans ask tough questions on the Elected Presidency review - CNA 15 Sep 2016
SINGAPORE: Is the Government raising the qualifying criteria for presidential candidates to block certain individuals from contesting? In a reserved election for Malay candidates, would someone who is half-Malay qualify? These were among the questions Singaporeans asked at dialogue session on Thursday (Sep 15).
The dialogue, helmed by Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam, is the first to be held after the Government released its White Paper on Thursday evening. It was attended by around 300 to 400 people in South East CDC."
Interesting that this topic is STILL attracting some many questions. It basically, if we take it at face value that many are still unclear or not convinced with the need to revise the EP.
For me, it is still the fundamental question raised by the EP Committee that is outside their scope but deemed necessary to raise: the possibility of abolishing the EP and go back to the old 'appointed President' scheme!
Ex-EP candidate Mr Tan Cheng Bock already asked his supporters and any neutral doubters NOT to judge that the revision sought to the EP scheme is to take him out of the equation given that he ALMOST won the last EP contested in 2011!!
Well, for me, if it is the intention of the government to block him, he will be blocked. It is as simple as that. The EP, while is to be elected by the people, is almost guaranteed a government friendly person endorsed by the government. Any other type of candidates are really not welcome. In any case, not many would qualify. And even the few that do, none will be interested to step into this politicised role anyway. Seriously!!
