1. 17 August 2016 - I did not realised that it was the 1st anniversary of the Erawan Shrine bomb explosion incident as I checked into Holiday Inns Bangkok on 16 August until I was reminded by CNN on TV on 17 August!!
Holiday Inns Bangkok was just a mere 70m away from the Erawan Shrine where score of people were killed and many injured, some badly. I turned back home the next morning 1 year ago as the workshop I was supposed to conduct in the same hotel was cancelled!
It was really business as usual on 17 August and 18 August 2016! One year on. There was no monument to commemorate the dead at the Shrine so there was no trace of the horrors that night 1 year ago!
I am glad it was 'business as usual' as I complete another workshop and came back last night!
2. 18 August 2018 2 Singaporeans held for wanting to join ISIS and 2 on retention order. The 2nd reported ISA cases of Singaporeans being detained and on retention order for wanting to join the terrorist group in less than a month since the last arrests!
I guessed it is also 'business as usual' that we will continue to find such radicalised people among us since the mind is free to receive messages and bad decisions made!
3. 18 August 2016 Indonesia warning of haze as the fire rages!
I was a bit worry when there were haze as early as April 2016 but then things took a turn for the good and there were NONE!
Well, good things cannot last forever. OK. I was exaggerating. Good things don't last for more than 4 months! We are expecting haze to be back again after the latest warning by our neighbours on raging fires in Indonesia!
I guessed it is 'business as usual' too in this particular area? Is it? I hope against hope that it is not to be!
