Watched "Nadia Comenice Story" on CNA just. A superstar gymnast fr Romania 3 or 4 decades ago. An interesting story where sportsperson is used by the communists regimes all over to "showcased" how great the communist system work!
Of course it was a pack of lies. The only thing that work is the super handwork n sacrifices made by the sportspeople themselves. Injuries n all. The glories of winning belonged to the states, the communist regimes. Those were the days.
She finally defected to the USA n married an American gymnast too n settled down. Good that the documentary did not glorify the American way too much.
Fast forward to the coming Olympics in Brazil. The alleged systemic doping of Putin's Russia did not get a blanket ban from IOC after Wada found it to be doing so. Even the world athletics federation agreed that there were systematic state sponsored n orchestrated doping program in n by Russia!!
The IOC said it should be treated individual by individual to be fair to the athletes since many, I presumed r victims too if their governments instituted the systemic doping.
Anyway, using great medal winning haul at the Olympics is no longer that sexy n intoxicating for suppressed people around the world, assuming there r still some outdated governments with such thinking.
People care abt real jobs n peace n prosperity more than sporting prowess as that can't put foods on the tables for their families!
May the Brazil Olympics go on safely n successfully.
