Watched the CNA news by a Senior Minister of State for Health or something like that addressing a sustainable Healthcare seminar where he mentioned the needs to share data by the key stakeholders so as to keep the costs down.
Not sure if he will, or did, ask about the make up of our Healthcare costs or not.
Sustainable costs to me mean:
1. public health care costs must be regulated. Pay them well but not over the top. Especially the top end folks. When they move to the private side, charge as much as their clients can afford! The multimillion Dr Susan Lim's charges in her case is a standout;
2. pioneering meditech can be public funded n find mass application with as many patients as possible to spread the total costs of RnD;
3. stop making all public n restructured hospitals purely or mainly profit oriented n be innovative in a "wrong way". e.g. Making car parking, with valet, fees taking as a revenue stream. e.g. the "retail model" of SMRT Corp making foods expensive for visitors of the patients in public hospitals;
4. break the mindset of medical doctors must make a million annually to compensate for the big investment to train n develop one! Earning more money doesn't make a true medical doctor happy if he/she is at the actualisation stage;
5. prevention is better than cure always. So continue to invest in promoting healthy lifestyle starting from young at home, reinforce in schools n ultimately a self-motivated individual.
Staying healthy Inspiring others.
