"Ex-VSC officer sentenced to five years' jail for sexually abusing mentally disabled teenager - The Straits Times 25 May 2016
SINGAPORE - A former Voluntary Special Constabulary (VSC) officer, who abused his position of trust by sexually assaulting a mentally disabled teenager, was sentenced to five years' jail on Wednesday (May 25).
Koon Kok Wai, 53, who faced three charges, admitted to touching the youth, then 17, in a toilet cubicle on June 12, 2014, and performing oral sex on him in mid-June that year.
Koon was a VSC sergeant when he came to know the victim, who is autistic and mentally retarded."
It is always very distressing to come across such criminal offences where the offender is the one who were supposed to upheld the laws. It doubled the misery when the victim was someone who need more protection!
Whatever possessed this ex-VSC officer is for the professional psychiatrists and psychologists to find out but he has his just punishment.
Anytime a public servant and a person in authority violated the laws they are supposed to upheld, the punishment simply has to be doubled or tripled that meted out to ordinary offenders.
The reason is very simple: abusing the authority vested by the government and laws enforcement agencies and violating the trust of public of the same public servants is grave matter.
Anyone and everyone who are in the position of public trust must be make aware of the dire consequence if they should abused that trust.
Some people may say this is unfair. At the same time, nobody ask anyone to be a public servant. If you do become one, and with authority vested in you due to the uniform and job, you simply has to measure up. If not, leave the job!
Hopefully the victim gets help to forget this episode while the culprit get help to leave that unwanted desire.
