Daily Lessons from Life 19 May 2016 - Impartialty of a Judge? Can we legislate no layoff? Refugees crisis?

Air crash of Egypt Airline - total 66 people reported perished as it crashed into the Mediterranean sea off Greece! Suspected terrorism. RIP as we wait for more information to emerge over the next 24 hours!

1. "Last minute stay of execution granted for Kho Jabing - CNA 19 May 2016"

Interesting twists and turns. Good to read that Judges were made to explain themselves a bit more with such 'challenges'. Of course, being human, nobody is perfect.

Good learning about how to distinguish 'this appeal' vs. 'the 1st appeal' and the '3rd appeal by an opposition politician who happened to be a lawyer by profession'!

Whatever it maybe, may justice be served.

2. "Argentine lawmakers pass bill to stop layoffs; Macri veto awaits - Reuters 19 May 2016

Argentina's opposition-controlled lower chamber of Congress on Thursday passed a bill to prevent layoffs in the public and private sectors, challenging the centre government's efforts to cut a gaping fiscal deficit and spur investment in the battered economy."

Wow! What does this mean? Does it mean no employers can layoff their employees even for genuine poor businesses? Is this a compulsory welfare system being imposed on the business owners and management? How does this work? Is this sustainable long term?

Any rational business people would tell you that this cannot be sustainable. When businesses are not making money, and I am talking just reasonable generally acceptable profit by ordinary people, there is no way the businesses would continue to keep the employees on the payrolls.

So, it is back to 'how to create jobs? what kind of jobs? what is the most equitable compensation so that it is sustainable as it does not add to costs that crush the businesses? is it possible to have zero growth and still surviving with everyone taking a lower pay, paying a lower cost of living, etc.? That should be the holy grail of any politicians and academics really!

3. "Ai Weiwei's Greek show highlights "shameful" response to refugee crisis - Reuters 19 May 2016

Beneath the Greek and EU flags flying outside the Athens museum hosting Ai Weiwei's new exhibition, the Chinese artist has hoisted his own to draw attention to what he calls Europe's "shameful" response to the refugee crisis."

Ai Weiwei is an artist. He has it tough in China. Being jailed and under house arrests many times. This despite his dad supposedly was a senior government official during his time.

It is easy for artists to express their disgusts and create art pieces to represent their views of the current affairs, in this case, the Europe Refugees Crisis. If they are the government leaders of the day, how would their ideals work out for these millions of refugees? Would they even dare to implement their idealistic, 'we will welcome you with opened arms always' policies? Maybe. Yet, being sentimental is one thing. The need to be logical and rational must be paid heed to too!

For me, the WORLD needs to fix the root causes. Why are the refugees fleeing their own countries? Should not every person on earth be most precious in their own countries? Whatever let those countries to have a regime that 'forced it citizens to escape to a better place?' This is ridiculous. Only when the 'refugees' realise that they must stay and fight instead of uproot and move to another country will their country be truly theirs. NO OTHER country should be the 'permanent' country of the refugees. Especially those economic refugees. Only when the people of a country WANT to stay in till their last day of life on earth, can a country be peaceful and powerful again.
