Daily Lessons from Life 02 April 2016 - Breaking the taboo! Voters' power over politicians!

1. "24-hour acute care clinic to open at Alexandra Hospital on Apr 4 - CNA 2 Apr 2016

Alexandra Hospital’s new acute care clinic (ACC) at an open house on Saturday (Apr 2). The 24-hour ACC will provide medical care for residents in the area, who will be able to visit a doctor on the weekend or late at night when GP clinics and polyclinics are closed.

From Monday, the clinic will provide basic care for walk-in patients. Patients who require additional care can also get their blood tested and x-rays done.

The hospital said that the clinic is not an emergency department. Severely ill patients will be stabilised and transferred to emergency departments at the nearest public hospitals.
“The difference between a full-fledged emergency service – (an) A&E – and our ACC is that the emergency ambulances fetching patients who have (been in) major traffic accidents will be diverted to the major hospitals with trauma centres, such as the Singapore General Hospital, National University Hospital or Ng Teng Fong Hospital, which are also within the vicinity. But our staff are very well-trained and we are well-equipped to look after most patients,” said Sengkang Health CEO Professor Christopher Cheng."

Good that they DID NOT avoid starting operation on 4 April 2016! 4/4 with some people, Chinese or other races or people who believe in numerology, is BAD NEWS!

Then again, each day there will be accidents and some people will need 'acute care' if not 'trauma centre type' of treatment.

So, kudos to Alexander Hospital administrator and management!

2. "Divisive, populist politics in the US could happen in Singapore: PM Lee - 2 Apr 2016

WASHINGTON, DC: Singapore is not a “magic state” which is immune to the problems of other countries, like the divisive, populist politics currently happening in the United States, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said.

"We must never believe that we are in a ‘magic state’ where the problems of other countries can never happen in Singapore," he said. "What we can say is these are problems in other countries, we must work very hard to avoid them coming to Singapore.”

Mr Lee added that the mood in US now is "very troubled".

"That’s why you have candidates expressing very extreme views, because it’s not a really a solution, a compromise."

"In that mood, I think it’s not easy to make a case why a complicated agreement 1,000 pages long is good for America. It’s much easier for people to raise anxieties and negatives and sour the public support.”"

While some may think that Singapore is a 'magic state', I NEVER have that impression. To the contrary, Singapore is a very WELL MANAGED state under the strong leadership of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his pioneering colleagues with relatively obedient pioneering Singaporeans.

As the citizens begin to FEEL that they have 'arrived', that they are JUST as educated and as SMART as the political leaders, strong argument and inclination to stick to: 'I am right and you are wrong' position, one that used to be held by our national leaders, cracks and gaps will appear!

As for the US Republican Presidential candidates, except for Donald Trump, the rest are just politicians sticking to their 'entitlement' and not really having the courage and honesty to say what they had in mind.

Will the populists be elected? Maybe. If so, the voters have made their choices. As it is a democracy, 4-5 years later the voters can vote again. If they continue to vote the least helpful gal or guy into the office of the President of USA, so be it. There will be consequence. Can SOMEONE change the rules? Can someone declared martial law or anoint himself or herself as the 'President for LIFE"?

Extremely unlikely. So, why bothered?

For me, the Singapore voters had SPOKEN loud and clear in GE2011. The government heard the voices of the people. They acted, or some of them would claim that: 'we had that in mind and on our plan long time ago. Just that the voters were impatient to wait for the plans to be implemented soon.'

So, move on. NO need to sweat over this 'mood' of the US Presidential candidates.

USA simple has to get use to having an almost equal partner/foe in the awakened social capitalist China. Russian under Mr Putin is exactly the role model for the current Xi-led China.

Singapore just have to continue to change with the tides.
