Daily Lessons from Life 23 February 2016 - PAP Community Foundation principals charged for misappropriating funds

"PAP Community Foundation principals charged for misappropriating funds - CNA 23 Feb 2016

SINGAPORE: Two PAP Community Foundation (PCF) principals have been charged in the State Courts with the criminal misappropriation of funds.

Principal of PCF Sparkletots Preschool at Block 644 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, Bavani V R Kumaran, was charged on Tuesday (Feb 23) with two counts of criminal breach of trust. The 39-year-old allegedly misappropriated more than S$13,500 belonging to Ong Choo Huay.

Bavani allegedly misappropriated S$6,690.65 between January and November 2014, and another S$6,848.30 between January and October last year. She will appear in court again on Mar 22.

In a separate case, the Centre Principal of the PCF Centre at Block 515 Jurong West Street 52 was also charged with misappropriation of funds.

Koh Anna, whose alias is Koh Susie, was charged on Monday (Feb 22) with four counts of criminal breach of trust amounting to more than S$79,000. She allegedly pocketed between S$49 and S$50,409.45 on four instances between August 2010 and July 2013.

Koh’s case will next be mentioned on Mar 24.

Criminal breach of trust by a clerk or servant results in a jail term of up to 15 years and a fine."

A sad situation with 2 principals been charged with criminal breach of trust on the same day!

1. these are probably isolated cases even though there were 2 been charged on the same day!;

2. there must be reasons for the 2 principals to have committed these CBTs. Hopefully with the due investigation done, the public can learn about what happened and IF there are holes in the internal control system of the organization concerned that we need to be alarmed;

3. on the other end, do these 2 'offenders' mean that the quality of our educators are at such a dismay level that we can no longer trust our future leaders, the children, to them? I think the type of training provided to these principals are a lot better and higher than in the past, so the quality of our educators today should be much better than in the past. So, I am sure it is an exception rather than the rule.

I hope the 2 principals get help to turnover a new leaf as what they had done are not good example to the kids they were charged to take care of!
