Daily Lessos from LIfe 03 August 2015 - How to be perceived as a fair GE fight?

Pleasantly surprised to be given a token of appreciation by REACH of MCI at tonight's REACH Contributors' Night by EMS Goh Chok Tong, the GOH, and Dr Amy Kor, Chairperson of REACH. Am thankful to be given the platform to contribute ideas and disagreement with Government's policies in this forum.

1. "PM Lee thanks MP Inderjit Singh for years of service - TODAY 3 August 2015

TODAY reports: “He is retiring to spend some well-deserved time with his family,” Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong says."

Good to read about PM Lee's words of appreciation to his long time teammate in his GRC. I wish he had said it a bit earlier in public. It is better late than never. :-)

2. "Judgement reserved for MND's AHPETC appeal - CNA 3 August 2015

The National Development Ministry had appealed against a High Court decision rejecting its application to have independent accountants appointed to the Workers' Party-run Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council."

Seriously, I am not sure how this is helpful given that the High Court judge has already stated clearly that the Minister of MND has the power to appoint or ask the TC to accept any conditions under the laws without asking the court to decide for the Minister. So, I am puzzled why taxpayers' money are use to file this appeal.

Is there something that lay people like me is missing?

If the concerned TC had committed frauds, CPIB should get involved and investigate in a transparent and thorough manner to ensure that the interests of the Residents are NOT damaged!

3. "Opposition parties gather for horse-trading talks - CNA 3 August 2015

Three representatives from each Opposition party were allowed in the meeting, while host National Solidarity Party had five representatives."

Will be interesting to see the OUTCOME of this 'horse trading' session! This is one of the most eagerly awaited GE since the last watershed GE2011 where the opposition captured a GRC for the 1st time shattering the 'fortified strategic device' of the ruling PAP.

With the WP-run AHPETC mired in controversy with their 'corporate governance and financial situations' been questioned publicly, it will be interesting to see if 'overly focusing on this' will hurt or benefit the ruling party in the coming GE.

It is delicate as ESM Goh responded when I raised the question in tonight's REACH Forum how can the ruling PAP contest the coming GE without being perceived as 'using unfair advantages' that we MUST point out 'things that are done wrong' without fear nor favour of losing 'voters who may somehow favoured underdogs'. I agree with calling a spade a spade. Just that emotional responses must also be managed well besides cold hard rationality in this situation.
