1. Back to serve as I-Quit volunteer for Health Promotion Board (HPB) tonight and am elated to be able to attract 2 young ladies and a group of 18+ boys and gals to enrol in the I-Quit 28 Days campaign! All the best to their journey to kick the habit! Peace to them.
2. A few things some of my friends and I thought of a number of years ago are coming to the fore as Government is now ready to push them!
2a. "Singapore's HR sector to get professional certification framework - CNA 10 July 2015
The framework to develop talent in the human resources sector will create more career and professional development pathways, says Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say.
The initiative comes under the Sectoral Manpower Plan for human resources, which will be developed by a tripartite committee. The committee comprises representatives from the Government, employers and unions.
"Tripartite partners in over 20 sectors are coming together to formulate the manpower development plans for their respective sectors,” said Mr Lim. “These plans will identify future directions for the economy, the future skills required of the workforce, and set out a systematic approach of upgrading the industry and the workforce.”"
Even though it was pushed and will become a reality due to the governmental support, at least it shows that our idea then was a good one!
With more and more CERTIFICATION, let's hope we are NOT creating ANOTHER kind of paper chase in the ADULT workers!!
2b. "More F&B outlets in Singapore going high-tech amid manpower crunch - CNA 10 July 2015
SINGAPORE: More F&B outlets in Singapore are using digital service solutions such as e-menus, and self-ordering and payment kiosks, to meet rising labour costs and a growing manpower crunch.
SPRING Singapore, the government agency which focuses on helping local enterprises grow, said it has supported about 120 food service companies to adopt such technologies in the first five months of the year - that is about 330 outlets in total."
Government funding is available for those hoping to jump on the information and communications technology (ICT) bandwagon. For instance, companies can claim up to 70 per cent of costs for adopting ICT solutions, under SPRING Singapore's Capability Development Grant. They can also further defray costs with a S$5,000 Innovation and Capability Voucher."
For people who travel to China often, the F&B outlets there, including even mom-and-pop shops use e-Menus LONG TIME ago! One of my friends even commented that the 'ready to use off-the-shelf' system can be bought for 'dirt cheap' price of less than Rmb4-5k!
So, it is good to see the F&B outlets in Singapore FINALLY getting on this e-train!!
How can we TRULY compete IF we can only move when Government provides incentives to move? Some folks from SPRING may even point out that the 'business people' ONLY reluctantly get on board the e-Train after REPEATED arms twisting and finally given up hope of trying to influence the government to relax the 'foreign dependency ratio' ruling!!
Anyway, now that we are on board, hopefully things will MOVE FASTER in technology adoption and application, at lower costs!
