1. "Opposition parties call for measures to prevent future MRT disruptions - CNA 09 July 2015
Several opposition parties have weighed in on Tuesday’s breakdown, which saw train services on the North-South and East-West Lines disrupted for 3.5 hours."
One of the best input is from Ms Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss of the Singapore People's Party who called for accountability from the Government and public transport operators. A “full and frank” account of the steps taken to implement the 2012 COI’s proposal should be provided, she said.
Ms Chong-Aruldoss said SMRT CEO Desmond Kuek should commit to a pay freeze in the meantime, and that fares should not be raised until the COI report was fully implemented and Tuesday’s breakdown accounted for.
2. "Higher Medisave withdrawal limits for older Singaporeans to pay for IP premiums - CNA 09 July 2015
When MediShield Life rolls out at the end of 2015, Singaporeans aged 41 and above will be able to use more of their Medisave to pay for the additional premiums that come with the private insurance component of Integrated Shield Plans."
It is good that the private insurers have agreed to hold the insurance premium for the part over the MedishieldLife for the 1st year of implementation and with this government's action, it at least tie the seniors who have challenges in paying the higher premium expected!
Q. is WHY should it be a 'naturally' higher premium?
3. "It was reported that the polyclinics consultation fees had gone up without any fanfare. Some patients only find out after comparing the fees they paid between this and the last bills! Some commented that it would have been decent IF the polyclinics can be upfront and transparent about the increase!!
Another vexing question is: why is there an increase RIGHTLY after some 'freebies' provided by the government to the people? Is it really like the theory that the government is so committed to wanting to 'take back from the left hand passed by the Right hand!' So that the 'nation' does not lose out?
I hope not though it felt that way!!
