Last day of April is over! 1/3 of 2015 is over! Glad to report I am doing relatively ok with my 2015 Resolutions by and large. Meaning, not stellar but just average! Soldier on for another 8 months!
"Shanmugam: Assault on Amos Yee 'unacceptable' - AsiaOne Apr 30, 2015
SINGAPORE - Law Minister K Shanmugam has said that the assault on Amos Yee today (April 30) while the teen was going to court is "unacceptable". The teenage blogger was on his way to a pre-trial conference this afternoon when a middle-aged man slapped him and then taunted Yee to "sue me, come and sue me". The man then fled the scene.
Mr Shanmugam said in a Facebook post tonight: "People may have strong feelings about Amos (or anyone else who is charged). But we have to leave it to the courts to deal with them. Taking the law into one's own hands cannot be condoned. "Rule of Law means respecting the legal process. If everyone starts taking the law into his or her own hands, then we will no longer be a civilised society. I hope that the attacker will be caught quickly, and is dealt with appropriately."
Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported that Yee has been placed back in remand after the pre-trial conference, after he flouted his bail conditions by publishing two blog posts. It said that Yee's bailor, youth counsellor Vincent Law, discharged himself. Yee's bail is now set at $30,000, up from the $20,000 that was put up by Mr Law, who is unrelated to the family, CNA reported."
Well, if Amos wants attention, he sure is getting it now! What drama!!
Lessons for me are:
1. the youth counsellor is probably too naive to want to help Amos. Yet, after starting this, maybe he can stick around a bit more to help. I did not try as I know I don't have the capability to help Amos. He needs professional help. Of course, provided he see the needs to be helped is paramount!;
2. Amos probably did not see this coming UNLESS, not to under-estimate his creativity 'evil' or 'genius', he PLANNED this dramatic twist to extend the interest and attention of the public on his trial! Too far fetched a plot? Maybe. Who really knows except Amos?;
3. of course any sane and right thinking person will NOT agree with this 'self-expressing vigilante' who slammed Amos with the intention to taunt him OR to 'wake him up' taking the laws into his own hands. One wrong does not right the other wrong! Suffice to say that this man WILL PAY for his rash actions even though he may get some adoring fans who wanted to do what he had done but did not!! Such is a messed up world we live in today!!
Amos will be spending more time in remand. Will this help him to reflect and 'repent' or will it twist him further to 'hate' the world even more?
As a non-religious person, my prayer would not do much for him. So, I just hope that he will continue to get professional help from the state now that his parents and the do-gooder youth counsellor had given up on him.
Or maybe send him to Indonesia?
Oh, by the way, have a wonderful Labour Day long weekend ahead to all.
