Daily Lessons from Life 18 April 2015 - Stupid ISIS? and Good Army Officer?

1. "ISIS claims responsibility for deadly Afghan bombing: President Ghani - AFP Apr 18, 2015

KABUL - The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group claimed to have carried out a deadly suicide attack in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday that killed at least 33 people and injured more than 100, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said, in what, if verified, would be the first major attack claimed by the group in the country. "Who claimed responsibility for horrific attack in Nangarhar today? The Taleban did not claim responsibility for the attack, Daesh (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack," President Ghani said on a visit to Badakhshan.

President Ghani strongly condemned the attack, which saw children among those killed, his office said in a statement. "Carrying out terrorist attacks in cities and public places are the most cowardly acts of terror by terrorists targeting innocent civilians," President Ghani said."

Is there glory to be claimed and credits gained with some 'Gods' for killing innocent people and children?

I find it truly detesting and cowardice such senseless murderous attacks on civilians. Any righteous persons would be so shameful for such cowardice act that they may just kill themselves! Alas, we care not talking about 'normal and rational' people. That is the most scary part. When someone kills in the name of a religion, there is NO RATIONALITY. Just pure emotional and STUPID acts!

2. "Army officer praised for standing up for NSF who was scolded in MRT - AsiaOne Apr 18, 2015

 SINGAPORE - An army officer has been praised on the Singapore Army Facebook page for standing up for a full-time national serviceman (NSF) who was being scolded in an MRT train.

The Singapore Army also revealed that the army officer who helped to calmly mediate the situation between a NSF and a member of the public was Lieutenant (LTA) Dionel Arun, 25, a platoon commander in the Singapore Guards' 3rd Battalion.

The story of LTA Dionel's kind act first came to light when an anonymous NSF's account of his experience on the train was posted on the SAF Confessions Facebook page.

The NSF said that he was on his way home from guard duty one morning when he encountered a woman who scolded him for spilling some water in the train. "It was a long hot day and I was still in my uniform. I was thirsty so I took out my bottle and drank some water," he explained. However, the MRT jerked suddenly and the NSF spilled some water in front of her. "She got angry and started shouting : 'Such a stupid and useless soldier! No brain is it?' Everyone was looking and I was very embarrassed," he said."

WHAT? WHY DID THE ARMY OFFICER came to the DEFEND of this NSF man who SHOULD HAD KNOWN better than to DRINK in a MRT Train when it is EXPLICITLY PROHIBITED????

This 'KIND' act was RECOGNISED by the Singapore Army??

Lessons for me are:

1. IF the facts are correct, the NSF man SHOULD BE embarrassed and SHOULD have apologised without any reserve and immediately to the lady in spite of her 'naturally understood' anger! He should also do the honourable thing of asking the Singapore Army to charge him for bringing the honourable NSF services into disrepute for 'committing an offence in the MRT train when it is explicitly prohibited'! NO???:

2. as for the 'gallant Army Officer', he can mediate calmly as he SHOULD BE as it is NOT a war situation with bullets flying over his head. There is NO NEED to be rude when you are disciplining the NSF man even when he had committed an offence. So, it is PAR and I am, perhaps a bit tough like late ex-Minister of Defence Dr Goh or ex-PM/SM/MM Mr Lee who would have taken me to task IF I had committed the offence that this NSF man did, by charging me!!;

3. Seriously, I am not sure WHAT kind of values our Singapore Army is trying to promote with this episode. I am VERY WORRIED by this 'misplaced kind act' by the Army Officer. I hope it is just an exception and that ALL our NSF officers and men know that when they put on the green or uniforms of our defence forces, THEY are Singapore defenders. We expect supremely high conducts from them. Even if it is a blazing bright sunny day and you are in the middle of it, YOU CANNOT drink a drop of water IF there is a sign that say: NO DRINK allowed! Unless you will die if you don't drink it immediately. As you cannot defend Singapore if you are dead!!

ISIS blowing up innocent people without any discipline is bad. Singapore NSF man without discipline cannot be good too. Yes?
