Daily Lessons from Life 03 January 2015 - Two 'Good Developments' in the Islamic Countries

Air Asia QZ8501 - Indonesia suspends AirAsia's Surabaya-Singapore route for violating operational hours The airline was only allowed to ply the route on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. -The Star/ANN: This is SHOCKING!! So, the DOOMED flight was NOT supposed to be flying!! How freaking SAD if this is true!!

"Turkey gives go-ahead for first new church in 90 years - AFP Saturday, Jan 03, 2015

ANKARA - Turkey's Islamic-rooted government has authorised the building of the first church in the country since the end of the Ottoman empire in 1923, AFP has learned.

The church is for the country's tiny Syriac community and will be built in the Istanbul suburb of Yesilkoy on the shores of the Sea of Marmara, which already has Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Catholic churches. "It is the first since the creation of the republic," a government source told AFP Saturday."

"Iran rejects controversial new hijab law  - AFP Saturday, Jan 03, 2015

But many now push the boundaries by wearing thin head scarves, tight leggings and fashionable coats rather than a chador, a long and traditional black garment that covers the entire body from head to toe."

Happy to read something positive about Islamic nations doing something positive!

Lessons for me are:

1. there are Muslims who want to keep this one of the world great religions relevant in the modern world;

2. there are Muslims who recognize the rights and existence of OTHER religions and respect that rights;

3. yes there are STILL some so-called hardliners who want to force their reading of Islam that MANY modern Muslims find puzzling, irrational and totally inappropriate. Alas, what am I say: irrationality! Of course, for the zealous ones, believing in a religion CANNOT be rational. It has to be PURE EMOTIONAL attachment! That is the most difficult bit for rational people to become religious. YET, if TOTALLY emotional believers of certain religions GO FULL HOG and want to STICK TOTALLY to what they interpret as the 'TRUE teaching' of their religions e.g. this hiding the female religious followers from head to toe or deeming the female religious followers UNFIT for many other things besides being a sex object and child-bearing machine. Should we agree?

May more 'rational' decision making be made in Turkey and Iran. Two of the great Islamic countries in the world. And many more to follow their leads in moderation.
