Two people were sent to the National University Hospital (NUH) after the car they were in burst into flames along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). Get the full story from The Straits Times.

SCDF confirmed the accident with AsiaOne.

Here is SCDF's statement:

SCDF received a call at around 1.20pm. SCDF was alerted to a car fire, resulting from a road traffic accident involving a car and a truck at BKE towards PIE before the Bukit Panjang exit. Fire was extinguished by SCDF using 1 hosereeel.

2 persons, 1 male Chinese in his 20s and 1 female Chinese in her 20s sustained injuries and were conveyed to NUH in conscious states. The male Chinese complained of left knee, left elbow pains, and chest pains. The female Chinese complained of right elbow pain and sustained abrasions."

The report did not do justice to WHOEVER pulled the young driver and his passenger out of the flaming car in those vivid photos taken!

Lessons for me are:

1. we need to understand WHY cars go in flame so much more these days than in the past! Is it due to too many electronic parts in the car? I believed I mentioned these before but not sure if any indepth studies or reports by the press or the auto industry folks being published since?;

2. in the photos, the car was burning furiously at the front and the man, I am not sure who he is but he definitely is a life saver and a hero, appeared to have to pull the driver from the driver's seat to the back seat and then carried him out of danger! It is INCREDIBLY COURAGEOUS as the fire is raging and by the time the SCDF firemen gone through with it, it was just a smothering rubbles!;

3. This brave man's act is really awesome. I am not sure if I have the courage to go in there and dragged the driver and his passenger out of the fire. The 2 young people definitely owed their lives to him. An inspirational act in an unfortunate accident!

He should be nominated for Ordinary Hero of 2014 if ever there is such an award. Let's not forget this heroic action by the end of 2014!!
