Daily Lessons from Life 14 November 2013 - 16-year-old girl allegedly murdered by maid

"16-year-old girl allegedly murdered by maid - The Straits Times Nov 14, 2013

SINGAPORE - A 28-year-old maid has been arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a 16-year-old girl.

The incident happened this afternoon at Block 856B on Tampines Street 82, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The 16-year-old who lived with her family on the 10th floor was found with two fatal stab wounds in the bedroom.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, the suspected murderer is the family's 28-year-old maid, who have been arrested by the police.

A police spokesperson said the case has been classified as a murder investigation."

A tragedy. Not sure what happened but the consequence is the most feared by most employers of maids.

Lessons for me are:

1. it could have happened to any family as somebody said having someone in your house on a 24/7 basis is like drawing lottery. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get the wrong end of the draw;

2. from a statistical perspective, alleged murders committed by maids are very low. Of course, for the victims, it is one too many. I wonder someone will be writing lots of 'emotional' messages on how evil and bad maids can be. Don't get me wrong, some of them can be bad but none will come to work with the intention to kill. Though I did learned about maids in Malaysia from certain non-traditional Asean countries had committed murders and fled the country;

3. whatever happened in this particular case, let justice be served.

Condolences to the family of the dead.
