Daily Lessons from Life 11 September 2013 - 12th Anniversary of 911

911 - A day that shook the world, and USA especially, is upon us again. Not literally but just the 12th anniversary. Thankfully nothing untowards had happened even though the day is not over yet in the USA. Looks that way anyway. May such attack never to be repeated ever! I still remembered watching the CNN live feed that night and throughout the morning in Singapore with disbelief. Especially when the twin towers started to melt down and collapsed like some wafer blocks! Lessons for me are: 1. with such a globalised and almost totally connect world, terrorists can be anywhere and not someone of the 'usual profile' like a down-and-out poor as dirt or traumatized 'I-lost-someone-dear-to-the-enemies' type. Some are well educated. Supposed rational and sensible thinking men and women. This makes detection a hit-and-miss lucky bid. Not much comfort but that's all we have for now; 2. with the Big Data and Data Analytic the two hottest technologies being used in 'profiling' potential connections with words, sounds and photos and pictures, maybe there is a high chance of 'super profiling' potential terrorists and nap them in the buds; 3. on the ground, despite the ultra vigilance by the people, the attack can happen anytime and anywhere by some crazed fanatics who defied logics and rationality. Will I lose sleep over this possibility? Nah. To do so will basically rob you of your life. In this situation, the best response is probably the French way - whatever will be will be. Be vigilant. Catch them if we can. If not, what will be will be!
