Daily Lessons from Life 07 August 2013 - Lee Kuan Yew: New book is unvarnished account
"Lee Kuan Yew: New book is unvarnished account - Singapolitics Aug 06, 2013
SINGAPORE - Former prime minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew said that while his views are "largely unvarnished" in his latest book on geopolitics, some of the rugged edges were shaved off.
"I didn't want to ruffle too many feathers," said Mr Lee at the launch of his book on geopolitics "One Man's View of the World" on Tuesday."
Mr Lee asked for a 'quick death' if the end is near. I think a lot of us wish for the same fate too.
Lessons for me are:
1. he knows his end is near. It is quite natural to want to leave behind some legacies. Even when Mr Lee already has LOTS and LOTS of legacies. There is no disputing that he is the type of national leader that comes one-in-a-million and in a thousand years. He, and his team of first generation leaders, created a miracle called Singapore. Economically for sure;
2. Is there a need to peek into the future and be a fortune teller, whom we know do not know best. It is good that some of the predictions have their rugged edges shaved off as it serve no positive purposes if we upset our neighbors with the predictions, which are just one man's guesses vs. the other. He has done Singapore a favour here by taking out the rugged edges for sure. Thank you very much;
3. back to 'quick death', many old and older Singaporeans of his generation will ask for the same. Most of them are 'beholden' to him and his generation of national leaders' good work that they are here and enjoying their golden years, hopefully though we do know there are a lot less fortunate that Mr Lee. Hopefully they too have a 'quick death' when their ends come.
One more book for posterity. One more uncertainty about the man's peace of mind with himself?
