Daily Lessons from Life 03 July 2013 - Egypt's army chief ousts president Morsi

"Egypt's army chief ousts president Morsi - AFP 03 July 2013 CAIRO: Egypt's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday and declared the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court caretaker. Sisi also announced a freezing of the Islamist-drafted constitution and early presidential elections." I am very confused by the revolution waves started by the so-called Arab Spring almost 2 years ago in Tunisia. Many so-called corrupt and dictatorial regimes were overthrown, some by peaceful means and some by violent bloodsheds, and most are elected by the so-called democratic general election by voters. YET, there are no peace and prosperity to speak off for many of these 'new' regimes and countries. What is happening here? Lessons for me are: 1. if the existing system is too corrupt and dictatorial, the people who are not educated enough, not understanding that the democratic voting right is not to exchange for pork-and-barrel, and no credible and reasonably popular 'new forces' to take over the vacuum left behind by the last regimes, things simple fall apart!; 2. is democracy ready for these countries or vice versa? When people are so fractious and all only interested in looking out for themselves, there will NOT be unity. With unity and stability and peace, there will NOT be general prosperity. There will be, hopefully, fights and bloodsheds and desolation and poverties though. Is that what the 'revolutionists' wanted?; 3. now what for Egypt? One of the great ancient civilization of human being. If China allows something like what happened in Egypt, what will happen to the Chinese and the world when 10% or 20% of the Chinese leave their country in time of extreme instability and bloodshed? More of the neighbouring countries will simply sink with the weight and numbers of 'refugees'. There is no stopping the human wave if they are desperate and rush over the borders. There will not be enough bullets to stop them. Not that it will come to that as the public opinions and world forum will make sure that NO ONE in his or her sane mind will do that. But then, if that happened, it would have been called: 'An unusual time'!! Do I have a solution for countries transitioning from somewhat benign regimes to full democracy when there is no tradition? NO. Do it ONLY if you are prepare to face the unpleasant consequence of paying the price for learning to be democratic! And be prepared to be the CHANGE that you want by joining political parties and even sacrificing your life. Good luck.
