Daily Lessons from Life 09 June 2013 - Singapore's Gutters Politics?

Another statement by WP. A statement by the Minister for Water Resources and Environment. This so-called spat between NEA and AHPTC on who is responsible for cleaning of 2 blocks of Hawkers Center or Market just keep going on and on with each party releasing some documents here and there and all trying to say who is wrong and who is right. Singapore politics has really descended to the lowest level of 'gutters' politics now. This from a "Third to First World Nation"!! Is this progression or regression? I thought 'gutters' politics are stuffs of some other countries that Singapore criticised. For me both WP and PAP and its Ministers should try this: 1. CALL a Town Hall Meeting at Hong Lim Park Speakers' Corner asking AHPTC, NEA, ATL (the contractor who supposed issued a quotation for scaffolding erection and disassembly to one of the Market hawkers' representative), the involved Hawkers' representative to COME TOGETHER to talk about this IN FRONT OF any Singaporeans who are interested in the 'truth' of this issue, and with CNA, Media Corp's TV crews documenting the WHOLE PROCESS; 2. who said what and whatever to-ing and fro-ing should be revealed in a chronological order with EXACT Name of the persons, the exact documents supposed be produced or signed or asked for, etc, etc. This will give the interested public the chance to REALLY understand the WHOLE picture instead of hearing bits and pieces from the involved parties! Can the Minister initiate this or NEA or AHPTC or Media Corp? :-) 3. We don't need soup opera in Singapore's political arena. We need OPEN, TRANSPARENT and FACE-TO-FACE 'facts finding and confirmation' meeting attended by interested public to KEEP our politicians, be it from the WP or the PAP, firmly accountable to Singaporean voters. They SERVE us. We have the right and the need to know IF this is a BIG issue or it is just a storm in a tea cup? Ultimately, were the impacted parties, the concerned Hawkers, happy with the cleaning done? And did they have to pay for cleaning the higher part of the hawkers center which they did not have to in the past? For goodness sake, STOP dragging First World Singapore into the gutters politics of 4th world!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!!!
