Daily Lessons from Life 07 - 09 May 2013 - A few BIG things?

A few BIG things to reflect upon over the last few days after some serious writer's block? 1. Ohio Escape of 3 Women who were held for 10 years within the neighbourhood where they 'disappeared' Three girls disappeared for a decade, being held, apparently, only a block away from where they 'disappeared', and live to tell the tale. A horrible one. They were subject to being chained, beaten, sexually assausted, and one even has a 6-year old girl. The 'monster' or 'monsters', they are three brothers though it is not cleared who is the brain and if all were intimately involved in this terrible crime. The revelation was too shocking for many who know them and him, in particular. Supposedly no sign of suspision throughout the 10 years. Or as some reflect, with the wisdom of hidesight and 20/20, there were the odd signs of: why does a man who lives alone need to buy some much MacDonald almost everyday? the sighting of 2 naked women walking in the house? etc. Whatever the reasons for this regrettable oversight, the key is that the ladies are alive and safe from their tormenter(s). A lot of work to help them regain the 'reality' with professionally trained personnel will start soon. After the police formally pressed charges against these 3 brothers. On CNN, I saw two young women who had sufferred similar fate as these three courageously living their new lives. Speaking about their ordeals and helping others who may have sufferred the same terrible treatment to receover. I salute them. I salute their society that understand who should be punished and who should be given the help. The accuseds must be punished after a fair trial while the victims must be help and live a good life. 2. Desmond Ong, ex-PAP candidate, left NTUC and moved into private sector A sense of deju vu. A certain Mr Ong YeKun, losing PAP candidate in the last GE, also left NTUC to get into private sector. Is this healthy? It seems that if you 'fail' there is no place for you. It does not matter if you are really passionate about politics and wanting to help the citizens. Or maybe I need to find out if the 'vanquished' also welcome this move since he could, from the start, well be 'forced' in to politics! Some said the losers are not ill-treated as the private sector jobs pay decently. That will be fine IF that is what the losing candidates truly desired. If not, can they join another political party to try to serve the people? Think about it. No rush...
