I did not stay up to wait for the final count as I have an early plane to catch.
The results were published in the newspapers: BN 133 vs. Opposition 89 (or 93?).
BN has a reduced majority. Cutting further their less than 2/3 of parliamentary seats saved in 2008.
The opposition leaders are saying they want to contest the GE as they have evidence of irregularities of certain closely fought seats like: blackouts, allowing BN supporters going passed through security, and presence of 'foreign voters'.
I don't know where all these will lead to.
If the corruption as alleged by many Malaysians are true, and if the corrupted people are not brought to justice, surely the core values of the nation are at risk. If the right-minded people are trying to change the corrupt way and they could not find a legal way to do so, the pent-up frustration will find a release path through any tiny cracks that may exist in the existing social fabric.
This CANNOT be a good thing as a pro-active change and people initiating changes for the better has a higher chance of succeeding than change blowing up in ones' faces as everyone was turning a blind eye and closed ears!
For me, a stable and peaceful Malaysia is important for Singapore.
Yet, only the Malaysians can decide what changes they are willing to initiate and go through to have a society where most are united and with justice and security for ordinary citizens.
As an adult, it is sometimes hard to understand how the world works!
