My Comments on the article in Yahoo! Singapore titled: Will the Sea Change in HDB Policy Drag Property Prices Down?
I applaud the efforts and determination shown by Minister Khaw in re-charting and re-directing HDB back to its original purpose - that of providing affordable public housing to Singaporeans without making them into common slaves of property mortgages like many of the so-called 'rich' countries like Japan (3-generation housing loan), China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, etc - AGAINST many entrenched, BUT minority, constituents in his own PAP, the property-riched class of voters/business people, property speculators, etc.
It is NOT about 'loss of face' as the Author of this article, Mr Propwise, mentioned. It is a FUNDAMENTAL national policy that any government MUST get it right in order to STAY in power.
When your citizens CANNOT afford or have to slave for a life time or two to own an 'affordable' public housing, not to mention the constant encouragement to get marry, raise 3 and more kids, work productively but don't neglect to have good family education to bring up your kids so that coupled with the school education we raise upright and engaging Singaporeans for the longer term, etc, etc demands, it is NO WONDER that some young Singaporean couples are screaming BLOODY MURDER and how UNREALISTIC the government's expectations were!!
Keep at it Minister Khaw. You MUST NOT fail!! If you do, the consequence will be far reaching. If the CURRENT prices of the overall property fall by 30%, MANY of the OLDER property owners are STILL in money!! Many of them are REAL OLD Singaporeans. So, they can still make about 100% or 50% profit on they original purchased price. Sufficient, if they don't gamble away or squander away the profit in cash, to live a relatively comfortable retirement lives.
As for the RECENT 'I don't believe Minister Khaw is serious about doing the RIGHT things for Singapore's future' lots who continue to chase and PUSH the property prices higher, TOO BAD!!
Minister Khaw said: 'What goes up must come down!" "The age of unrelenting escalation of property prices is OVER!".
May Minister Khaw be right. Long live affordable public housing for our younger Singaporeans!!
Your gladly expect my prized HDB Flat Price to drop by 40% Singaporean
