Daly Lessons from Life 4-5 June 2012 - Some observations ...

I typed in some comments in the blog last night but the system went awry and I lost them. So, here I go again with today's comments as well.

1. 4th June 2012

The June 4th incident has not gone away. Each year there are people still trying to find out what really happened, why, who was responsible, and etc. So, yesterday in China some activists were rounded up. This incident and the mention of it is something to be feared about by the authority. This is especially so with the once in a decade change of political leadership exercise taking place this year and the high profile case of Bo Xilai's ouster from the CCP top echelon of leadership!

It is a tough situation. Who can categorically said if it did not happen, China will be a better place today? If it is what, what are the criteria used to judge it? What if it would left a fragmented China and leave it at the mercy of the Western political forces as democracy as the Western world knows it is quite broken in some of their own backyards?;

Singapore LTA decided to hasten the erection of an overhead traffic light at a road junction where 1 fatal accident that took 3 lives followed by a near high speed accident at the same junction 2 weeks later that could have claimed a few more lives is good to see. The authority apparently took this decisive action after receiving many public suggestions that the erection of an overhead traffic light will be helpful to prevent potential confusion of which side of the junction is having a 'red' or 'green' lights! Flexibility and the courage to say: maybe the public on the ground know better than we, the land transportation experts!;

"Hougang MP-elect defends company track record - CNA 05 June 2012

SINGAPORE: Hougang Member of Parliament-elect Png Eng Huat on Monday defended his business track record, which was questioned by some newspapers last month, in the run-up to the Hougang by-election."

It seems that Mr Png closed down 3 out of the 8 companies he had control over in an orderly manner and with no debts and no one suffering financial losses while the 4th one was dormant. As to the other 4 where he was appointed as Director by NTUC Income, his employer, he has no control over them long since he left NTUC Income.

It did not matter as he STILL won the By-election. It could have been different if readers were influenced by such 'implied' incompetence and opportunistic nature of the man. This is one areas where some, and increasingly more, people doubting the impartiality of our news media and journalists. This is UNDESIRABLE as a freedom of speeches with responsibility country that Singapore wants to be and be known for, simply must have just and fair reporting.

May this episode be another lesson in working towards a 1st World Global Vibrant Nation with a 1st World Parliament supervised by a 1st World Citizenry that exercises Independent Decision Making with the Value of 'creating a bigger good for the majority of the people' without self-interests!
