Daily Lessons from Life 03-04 May 2011 - Thought I blogged Last Night?

Thought I blogged last night about MM Lee's comments on if this GE will be his last or not as well as the need to let the next generation of Singaporeans decide on the political system and path forward to the country since they own it really.

Anyway, credit to him for his good work for Singapore in his 1st 3/4 of his political life.

The coming GE will see how young Singaoreans vote and want to take the nation to. It maybe good and it may be not so bad either way. Nature needs diversity to thrieve.

Tonight is the 2nd last night for political rallies and tomorrow will be the final one before the newly introduced 1-day cooling off period kicks into effect where no campaigning is allowed till polling day on 7th of May 2011.

One noticable change in the behaviors of PAP candidates is the willingness to apologize by the top brasses. This is quite unusual and would have served it well had it started such actions a bit earlier. PM Lee said the government was not perfect and that it had made some mistakes and when that happened it would say sorry, acknowledge it, apologize, learn from it and make sure that there is no repeat of the same mistake. That is a humble and quite common sense approach really. When issues were discovered or happened, get on with it and deal with it. At the same time when the people voiced their concerns and disapproval for valid reasons, acknowledge them and move on. This generation of voters are more educated (though not necessarily better in thinking!) and more critical. They need to be listened to, explained to, and some convincing. All these will take some time and you just have to invest in it. At least when the issues were first raised and debated.

There apparently were some cracks within the PAP too when some candidates took a swipe at other candidates from the same party. Supposedly such remarks were quickly too down and given a new editing before being released into the main stream media.

While some may be alarmists, I think it is natural and healthy. As long as the cracks are attended to when they first appeared, it has a better chance of being repaired and restored to its original glory.

May Singapore gain from the GE! May the country move forward with more diverse views being heard, taken into account seriously and all reasonable interests of Singaporeans taken care as much as possible. Where the remaining 'insoluable' issues being taken care of individually wihtout sacrificing the bigger good of the nation.
