"Medvedev vows to 'liquidate' militants behind blast - Tue, Jan 25, 2011 AsiaOne
MOSCOW, Jan 25, 2011 (AFP) - President Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday called terror the most serious threat to Russia and vowed to "liquidate" the militants behind the Moscow airport bomb blast that killed 35 people.
"Terrorism remains the main security threat to our state - the main threat to Russia and all of our cities," Medvedev said after observing a moment of silence during which he could be seen choking back tears."
"Berlusconi attacks TV host for ?whorehouse? sex scandal show - Tue, Jan 25, 2011 AFP
ROME, Jan 25, 2011 (AFP) - Enraged Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, hounded by media over allegations of orgies and prostitutes, ranted live on air Monday night about "whorehouse television" obsessed with the sex scandal.
Berlusconi phoned in to the 'Infidele' programme, which was discussing the latest details of a scandal sparked by recent allegations by Milan magistrates over the prime minister's sex life."
You could not asked for a more different headlines for 2 heads of state in Europe! One fighting back tears as he dealt with a suicide bombing that killed score of people while the other defending his 'honour' on live TV show through phoning in for his alleged sex with under-age prostitute and organized orgies!
Lessons for me are:
1. there are leaders and there are leaders! Not everyone is the same. In Italy, perhaps that leader was right that many Italian men secretly admired him for his 'manly' act at 74 years old! In Russian, the shadow of Putin, ex-President and current Premier' over that leader is bad enough and he surely has no time to be armorous!;
2. the cultures, or maybe more accurately, some of the people in those cultures can tolerate men-women thingy better. Some not so. THe Catholic Church supposedly was vocal about this latest Italy's fantasy trip. In Russia, an important installation being attacked is tentamount to assaulting the invincibility of the nation. A proud nation that believed it is 2nd to none in the world!;
3. may the Italian leader get what he deserved - be a private citizen and nobody probably care about how he conducts himself. May the Russian leader find out who were responsible for this terrorist act and salvaged some pride for the nation.
While in Singapore, the senior leader is still working hard to help the country get better while the 3rd generation leaders are probably wondered what do they have to do more to measure up?
