Daily Lessons from Life 30 December 2010 - Assortment of Bad News?

1 "Court jails Israel ex-president Katsav for rape - Thu, Dec 30, 2010 AFP

TEL AVIV - Israeli former president Moshe Katsav faces at least eight years in prison after he was convicted Thursday of two counts of rape for assaulting a former employee, a Tel Aviv court said.

The verdict, which also found Katsav guilty of sexually harassing a second employee, caps a four-year process that saw the former president resign his post and spurn a plea deal that would have cleared him of the rape charges."

2. "CHINA - Questions now surround a village chief's death in China as netizens allege that he was held down by five men while a truck drove over his neck.

Qian Yunhui, head of Zhaiqiao Village in Yueqing City, was crushed to death by a construction truck that delivered materials for a nearby industrial zone reclamation project.

Netizens say that this was no mere accident as he had been seeking redress for his village's pilfered land. Chinese website ChinaSmack reported that government officials had misappropriated 146 hectares of land from his village."

3. do we need more ...?

Lessons for me are:

1. why would someone in such a high position commit such a crime? Corrupted by the power one gained after years of trying hard to be the top dog? May the ex-President of Israel repent and learned from this lesson. Praises to the Israelis judiciary system and the judges for having the courage and fearlessness to see that justice is done!;

2. why would someone killed another fellow human being just for land (assuming he was indeed murdered by the people responsible)? One of my buddies said it was a very sad story and showed that greed know NO BOUND! Well, we had seen many many episodes of people killing fellow human beings just for money due to greed! The saddest part is that they eventually paid for these crimes, most of them and just a matter of time! Yet, those that come after them STILL cannot see the causal relationship. Maybe GREED is irresistable to some. Thankfully we know of some people who will NOT bend even if they are offerred a million dollar!

May the murderers be caught and justice be served. WHICH can be challenging in the still developing and imperfect Chinese judiciary system. As long as no high officials are invovled, the culprits will be brought to justice. We can bet on that!

Well, I do not think we need more sad and bad news to round up 2010. Let's look for something very positive tomorrow - the last day of 2011!
