Daily Lessons from Life 19 November 2010 - Courageous Cyclist at the Asian Games

If you read the Hong Kong newspapers over the last few days, you will not be able to miss the heroic of Ms Wong Wanyiu, the Hong Kong cyclist, who braved a broken rib to take the Silver Medal after a multiple pile-up in the Asian Games women's points race final!

I saw the clash on the TV news, which was screened over and over again, and it sent shudders down my spine. It was brutally painful and I am glad that no fatality occurred except with 2 other cyclists being hospitalized with dislocated shoulders.

She is hailed as the model athlete who trained hard and have a never-say-die attitude. Tiny Hong Kong SAR, PRC, shone brightly in this Asian Games with its cycling team. They had won more than 6 medals with a few in the color of GOLD!!

Ms Wong cried her heart out at the prize giving ceremony and it was a sight to behold. I am sure many had been touched by her passion and courage.

I, as a fellow sports person, albeit one of a much lower level, salutes her.

She is my leader in courage.
