"Sat, Nov 13, 2010 Reuters - Supporters rush to Suu Kyi's home after barricades removed
YANGON - Myanmar's democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi walked free Saturday from the lakeside home that has been her prison for most of the past two decades, to the delight of huge crowds of waiting supporters.
Waving and smiling, the petite but indomitable Nobel Peace Prize winner appeared outside the crumbling mansion where she had been locked up by the military junta for 15 of the past 21 years.
Loud cheers and clapping erupted from the thousands of people who had gathered outside her house under the tropical sun for a glimpse of the 65-year-old dissident, known to her supporters simply as 'The Lady'."
Well, a long saga and long imprisonment has finally ended for this lady. It will be interesting to watch what will develop from this event and how she can really get the people to rise against the military government in the near future!!
Lessons for me are:
1. resolve and determination are admirable attributes of a freedom fighter for sure. Yet, just being a prisoner will NOT make you a builder of a new and better order! So, the hard work, if allowed by the military junta, will begin NOW!;
2. the opposition has not shown anything concrete really after the military power refused to give up that power in the last election where her party swept all a few years ago, what has changed? very little if any!! Lots of complaining and protesting but to no avail. Will we see more?;
3. she will be scrutinized by her people now that she supposedly has the freedom to initiate, organize, educate, and execute a plan to make the majority of Myanmese enjoying a higher standard of living then now in 3-5 years time! Is she the one that her imprisonment made her out to be the only one with the power to unite the country? I hope so.
Let the real work begin, assuming the junta will stay their hands for a long enough period!!??
