Daily Lessons from Life 25 August 2010 - Australian teacher rapped over terror assignment

"Australian teacher rapped over terror assignment - AFP Wed Aug 25 2010

Parents found assignment to plan an extremist attack designed to inflict maximum casualties offensive.

SYDNEY - An Australian teacher was reprimanded after giving students an assignment to plan an extremist attack designed to inflict maximum casualties, officials said Wednesday.

The Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School class in Western Australia were told to plot against 'an unsuspecting Australian community', with the goal 'to kill the most innocent civilians in order to get your message across'."

Supposedly the teacher was inexperience and was well-intended? Perhaps the Aussies are too kind or too confused to call a spade a spade. It was inappropriate and stupid! The quality of this teacher surely must be questioned. Or not? Maybe it was really an innocent mistake by an inexperienced teacher who grows up playing 'violent computer games' where hundred of people get eliminated with vengeance! :-)

Lessons for me are:

1. teacher is not always right!;

2. students who challenge the teachers, in a respectful way, deserved respects!!;

3. sometimes we have to call a spade a spade and not try to be too nice about it. Otherwise, someone irresponsible may take advantage of it!

Good that the assignment was withdrawn and the teacher reprimanded. Let's look out for the next 'things people do'!!
