"Aussie PM struggles to get election campaign back on track - Sun, Aug 01, 2010 AFP
SYDNEY, Australia - Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard struggled Sunday to put her election campaign back on track after a poll showed her heading for defeat following a series of damaging leaks.
But just as she moved to re-focus attention for the August 21 election on policy, her campaign was overshadowed by claims her predecessor Kevin Rudd was once used by rival politicians as a 'double agent' to leak information about his own party."
Interesting development in the Australian political arena. The twists and turns of the people trying to be the top dogs are simply fascinating. I sincerely hope that they are doing it so that they can create a better future to the majority of the people and not for their own fame and fortune!!
Lessons for me are:
1. when you pushed an incumbent off mercilessly. Do prepared for others to question your integrity and that someone else may do the same number on you! Gordon Brown of UK could not wait to get Tony Blair, the 'Deputy President of USA' or Prime Minister of UK, out so that he can be the number 1 guy. He succeeded but his 'era' did not last very long! That much for wanting to serve the people when people may not want him!;
2. democracy is on trial really in this case as Australia supposedly has a fairly matured voters who enjoyed the democratic system for a while now. It will be interesting to see if 'real reasoned policies matters that will impact the majority of the voters' wins the days or 'emotion and pork barrel politics' wins the days!;
3. while it is not of my business to speculate on the results of the Australia General Election, I could not helped but questioned the motives of the incumbent, who pushed away its leader, just to get to the poll as the Prime Minister. Are there substances? An answer to be proved by the voters!
May the voters vote wisely and get the government they deserved - whatever it may be!
Notes: Today is the 7th day of my father-in-law passing. It was surreal for me as last Sunday I jogged back from his place and he was still well though he had suffered some ailment for a year plus. May he rest in peace as he is a good man.
